I laughed my ass off for the last two pages of this thread. Holy fucking shit. Good show, boys! It's been awhile since there has been anything like that around here.
UPB: I could see how you could say that Social Security and Medicare might be considered Ponzi Schemes. Housing isn't. I can see your argument for an indirect case, but that's all it can be.
aaugusti: I had never heard of Denninger until a few days ago. The guy sounds like a fucking moron. In the one post that I was linked to, he basically predicted the end of the world. He even had a nice embedded video at the bottom of a clip showing a meteor striking the earth from Deep Impact. Based on what he said in his entry, it hardly seemed metaphorical.
A buddy told me he has been ridiculously accurate over the last 6-8 months in the things he says. But, even knowing that he had some kind of track record, I have no reason to think that the guy is anything other than a kind of alarmist.
I have news for everyone. If it all goes to shit, we're all going to shit. There's nothing we can do. And, PS: It's not all going to shit. Stockpile some water and canned goods if it makes you feel better. I've been down that conspiracy theory, survivalist wormhole and, at this point, I see it as nothing more than a for-profit industry. But, it can be scary, I'll grant anyone that.

I agree that Denninger is the most over the top of the "sky is falling" crowd, but he has been dead on as to what has been going on. I still think that Roubini is the most accurate person out there, and his outlook is not great as well.
I don't think predicting things in July for November is that big of a deal, personally, which is the types of things people I know who read the guy are saying are "dead on."
