So glad not to be emotionally invest to this awful group of players.

But I like the pitchers.

So I will probably be rooting for them more than anyone tomorrow especially since the guy pitching is one of my favorites.

Shocking that DHall wants to give a drunk the benefit of the doubt.

I knew that was coming.

By the way, the day after his first Townsend bender he went 2 for 5.

So hopefully he got drunk early today.

I played Legion baseball the summers after my junior and senior years of high school.

Every weekend for the entire summer, we had doubleheaders on Sunday starting at noon.

The players on the team (not the coaches) instituted a "no drinking on Saturday nights" rule for the season. Keep in mind this is a bunch of douchebag kids who are on the fringe of playing D-II or D-III baseball. I think we had one kid play at CMU.

I can't remember one time someone coming to a game hungover. I'm not saying people didn't break the rule the night before, but no one was getting Cabrera drunk. And this was on a LEGION team.

I can't imagine what the other guys on the Tigers think of the guy.

I don't have a problem with someone who drinks. But if you are a professional athlete and you willingly choose to waste your talent in that way, you deserve any ramifications that are coming to you.

There are bigger consequences when you are public figure and a lot more to lose. It's just the nature of the beast. It's like Ricky Williams getting high. That's what he wanted to do and the NFL told him to fuck himself until he got his head on straight (though I don't doubt that the guy still finds away to hit a spliff every now and then).

He's not a bad guy for getting hammered. He's just making horrible decisions that could ultimately impact his career if he doesn't get it figured out. I don't feel bad for him in that regard even if I do wish him well. He can afford any treatment, therapy, detox, whatever that he needs.

Bobby Higginson was in my friend's basement getting drunk (among other things) the night that [Ivan] signed with the Tigers.

He looked up at the TV and said.. "oh we got [Ivan]... cool"

Some people just don't get it.

My prediction is... Cabrera plays well tomorrow... everyone will forget.

If he plays poorly, he will be out traded before next season.

We have an awful lot of holes and a terrific pitching staff.. Trading Cabrera would help build a dynasty.

Is this guy serious?

A dynasty?

They're in the worst division in baseball and they're playing game #163 tomorrow.

Something tells me the Yankees aren't worried about the Tigers dominating the AL for the next decade.

I heard that saying something "sounded gay" was no longer politically correct..

But if you aren't telling me that a team would give up 2-3 stud prospects to get Miggy... 2-3 stud prospects to go with our 3 young SP...

You put those players with Ryan Raburn... and you got something sweeter than yoo hoo.

Mostly, why are you in a basement with Bobby Higginson?

I'll take drunk Cabrera over almost anyone else in the majors. Not concerned about it. The only sad part of the story is he obviously can't keep his skank in check. But yeah no yeah let's totally trade him. I'm sure we can find another guaranteed 310+, 30 HR, 100 RBI guy.

However, if given the choice, I'd prefer the participants on my favorite team play the game sober...ish.

Here, I'll translate for everyone. Not that they don't already see through your obvious garbage:

"If the Tigers win, I'll be so happy!"

"If they lose, I'll just say I told you so."

Sweet.

So it's 12:15 AM and as I go to bed I'm not thinking about what SHOULD happen in tomorrow's game.

Instead I'm really hoping that Cabrera isn't in Minnesota pounding booze and beating groupies with Alexi Casilla.

I am not sure a guy who admits he stopped watching the Tigers early in the season last year because of their inept play should be too involved in a conversation regarding "fair weather" fans.

40-year-old virgin Danny [KNOBler] on WJR defending the Tigers' decision to play Cabrera Saturday:

"Well, he's certainly not the first player in sports to stay up late drinking the night before a game. He just got caught."

I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist of it.

These sycophant motherfuckers.

The Tigers had to play Cabrera on Saturday. And they have to play him tonight.

Ilitch has invested whatever Million Dollars into this team. He isn't going to greatly limiting an opportunity to get some amount of that back in playoff sales by sitting out his best player.

It is ridiculous to even suggest he should be suspended. Everyone (teammates, owner, fans) gets hurt except the guy who committed the act, who gets a day off.

Trading him after the season is a legitimate response.

When they batted him cleanup, Greg[g].

The Tigers said everything was cool. Get wasted. Hit your wife. Get taken to jail. Pop a sky high breathalyzer number. Bat cleanup. All within 11 hours.

Or maybe they said the Millions of dollars they can earn from a minimum of 1 home playoff game was more important than making a stupid statement that they don't allow ridiculous off the field behavior.

I have no problem with Ilitch making that decision. He has done too much for the fans.

You are looking at this in a far too short sighted way, Greg[g]. How about the money that Ilitch will earn from the remaining 810 games left on Cabrera's contract?

I'm not advocating that the Tigers make a statement just for the sake of making an example out of him. The Tigers need to protect their 100 million dollar investment. Ilitch can't afford to have Cabrera turn into Dmitri Young, and that's exactly where this is headed. Remember how DY couldn't take at bats or pinch hit because he was so wasted? Is it that much of a stretch to see that Cabrera is on that road now?

If Cabrera can pop a .26 on the morning of what is essentially a playoff game, then he sure as hell can show up wasted for some regular season game in the dog days of summer.

If the Tigers are going to be relevant in the years ahead, they need Verlander, Porcello, Jackson, and Cabrera at full strength. The Tigers can't afford, MONETARILY, to let Cabrera get away with this now.

I'm not saying that he didn't hit his wife but this card is being a little overplayed.

As I heard somebody say yesterday isn't it possible that the scratches etc., happened as she was trying to wrestle the phone away from him?

I mean really there are a million ways that could have gone.

Painting the picture to be that he came home and beat her up is a little much without more evidence.

You probably didn't hear the 911 call. The 911 operator asked if he hit her, and she said yes. Plus the police report indicated that she had a scratch or mark on her lip.

I'm a little worried that his power might be down if he hit his wife and didn't knock her out, only leaving a "little mark".

I did hear it.

I just wasn't entirely convinced.

Again, not saying that he didn't do it, just saying that he probably doesn't deserve to be labeled a wife beater just yet.

Go for it Greg[g].

You're so busy being stupid and two faced that you can't keep up using shit that's ACTUALLY true so I'll give that.

I backed down from a bet I never accepted.

I'm a wifebeater.

And an angry drunk.

All true right Greg[g]?

The next time you get on Shake or anybody else for resorting to this dogshit you'll look like a hypocrite.

But you're used to that.
